War by Post and Bullet

The StoryMap below was developed by 2016/17 Victoria University Summer Scholar Scott Flutey in partnership with the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. The essence of the project was to digitise, transcribe, then research items of correspondence relating to Britain’s military presence in New Zealand during the 1860s held in the Ellott philatelic collection. (Please excuse there are still a few technical glitches with the background and insert maps from time to time)

The digitised items, with Scott’s transcriptions, are available at collections.tepapa.govt.nz (searching for Gerald Ellott will bring up the objects).
